Oh my fucking good god I've got an interview at 10am tomorrow - the woman just rang me - what the hell do I do? I've NO idea what to say!
I'm panicking really badly!
Working in a solictors office doing general admin - nothing too taxing but I've never done ordering stationary or document binding before. Eeek. There's lots of other little bits to it like sorting internal mail and emailing staff but as I said I've never done anything like this before.
Oh tell me I am doing the right thing going to the interview
You are absolutely most definitely doing the right thing and I am very proud of you!
They have asked you for an interview so they are definitely interested in you and think you would be capable.
Ok, in a solicitors office they are going to want someone who is:
organised,
efficient,
able to prioritise,
good at time management,
able to communicate with people at the top just as well as the people at the bottom,
able to work well in a team just as well as working on your own
So.. it doesn't matter if you haven't done anything exactly like the job. What matters if you have got the sills they need which you can transfer over to the office and APPLY them to this role. So tonight, sit down, pen and paper, and jot down some examples of when and how you've done the above. It can be an example from a previous job, or even an example from your personal life. Try and have an example for all of them. I find if I write it down the night before it helps me to relax, and also I have something to refresh my memory with in the morning before the interview.
Finally, I can almost guarantee that they will ask "So why do you want to work for us?" This is not the time to say "cos I'm bloody skint and bored"! You need to do just a bit of sucking up. Have a look at their website, does it say they are a friendly company/ have they won some awards etc? So say that. They'll be impressed you've taken the time to do some research and read up on the company.
Have a think about the above and if you have any thoughts or stresses just reply and I'll check back later. Good luck... and RELAX!
I meant skills not sills!
Also - an example of when you have had to meet deadlines. And the dreaded question "what are your good points/ what are your bad points" That usually comes up too.
I hope this doesn't sound too much but in my experience you can never be under-prepared for an interview - you are only going to have 10/20/30 mins in which to sell yourself so think about your skills and what you are good at and be prepared to back them up with examples.
I am sure you will be absolutely fine but put a bit of effort into thinking these things through tonight and I promise you will feel 10x more confident tomorrow x
Argh! I meant never be "too over-prepared"! Haha ok I am going home now and stopping spamming up your wall haha!!!
Thanks took all your advice on board now we will just have to wait and see - somehow I doubt they will offer me it but who knows ![]()
xxxxx
Just wanted to say Good Luck!
My problem is I'm so eager to answer the questions that I sometimes ramble and jump in before they've finished asking, so my tip is wait until they finish talking then 'breathe' and then answer.
I'm sure you'll be fine, don't forget to let us know!
I did the rambling bit haha but then I took control of the urge and waited like you say
Oh it was awful ![]()
